The Responsible Business Practices Training Materials represent a collaborative product between the Institute for Sustainable Development at the National Economics University (NEU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which was completed and put into use in May 2024.
Responsible Business Practices can be concisely understood as businesses operating without causing negative impacts on people and the planet. The key to responsible business lies in achieving balance among three pillars: Profit – People – Planet. Currently, the framework for responsible business practices has been developing rapidly on a global scale, and Vietnam is no exception to this major trend. The Responsible Business Practices training materials are the result of over a year of collaboration between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Vietnam and ISD (NEU) within the scope of the global project on Business and Human Rights, with support from the Government of Japan.
This training handbook is one component of the Responsible Business Practices training materials in Vietnam. This handbook guides users (trainers) on HOW TO utilize the materials to conduct training sessions. Trainers are recommended to thoroughly read this document and refer to corresponding sections in Component 2 – Presentation Slides – if necessary, before reviewing other components of the training materials.
The training materials were co-designed and developed by the research team: Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Hien (Lecturer, National Economics University) with extensive experience in teaching, consulting, and researching human resource management, labor relations, sustainable leadership, and human rights due diligence; Mr. Nguyen Van Huan (Business and Human Rights Coordinator, UNDP Vietnam) with deep consulting and research experience in responsible business practices, business and human rights; Mr. Yuji Shinohara (Governance Specialist, UNDP Vietnam) with extensive experience in governance and industrial development, business and human rights; and Associate Professor Le Quang Canh (Senior Lecturer, National Economics University) with extensive experience in teaching, consulting, and researching sustainable development.
The training materials received consultation and contributions from Ms. Bui Thu Hien (Policy and Legal Specialist, UNDP Vietnam), Ms. Phung Thi Thu Ha (Project Coordinator, UNDP), and Mr. Tim McLaughlin (Social Performance Advisor).
Particularly, the research team wishes to pay tribute to the late Professor Nguyen Van Thang (National Economics University) for his tremendous contributions to responsible business activities and the exemplary studies featured in these training materials.

Bộ tài liệu tập huấn bao gồm 08 hợp phần, cụ thể: (1) Tài liệu dành cho học viên: là những tài liệu in hoặc file mềm phát cho học viên nhằm giúp học viên tham khảo và ghi nhớ, bao gồm các tài liệu trong hợp phần 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 và 8. Trước khóa học, học viên sẽ nhận được Form đăng ký (trong hợp phần 5), Slide bài giảng (hợp phần 2) và UNGPs (trong hợp phần 7). Trong khóa học, học viên sẽ được phát slide bài giảng (hợp phần 2, bản in), bài tập nhóm (hợp phần 3) và Phiếu thực hành (hợp phần 6). Khảo sát đánh giá sau khóa học (hợp phần 5) nên được học viên hoàn thiện ngày sau kết thúc khóa tập huấn. Các tài liệu của hợp phần 7 và 8 sẽ được gửi đến học viên sau khóa học. (2) Tài liệu hướng dẫn cho tập huấn viên: toàn bộ các tài liệu trong Bộ tài liệu cung cấp hướng dẫn cụ thể giúp tập huấn viên hiểu cách sử dụng các công cụ và bài giảng khác nhau, đồng thời có phương pháp tập huấn hiệu quả, phù hợp. Tài liệu của hợp phần 7 và 8 giúp tập huấn viên thực hiện và bổ sung thêm những nội dung có liên quan đến bài giảng. Tập huấn viên sử dụng tài liệu theo hướng dẫn tại Sổ tay hướng dẫn tập huấn này.
The materials include guidance manuals, lecture slides, case study exercises & solutions, along with key reference documents in both English and Vietnamese.
