The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Vietnam and the National Economics University (NEU), with support from the Government of Japan, organized a training course on "Responsible Business Practices and Human Rights Due Diligence for Japanese Companies and Supply Chains" in Bac Ninh over two days: August 30-31, 2022.

Attending the training course, UNDP was represented by Ms. Bui Thu Hien – staff member and legal and policy analysis expert at UNDP; the Japanese Embassy delegation included Mr. OTA Yuki-hiro – Second Secretary of the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam; the National Economics University was represented by Associate Professor Dr. Le Quang Canh – Deputy Director of the Institute for Sustainable Development; along with instructors from the program representing UNDP, the National Economics University, and Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics. From the Banking Academy, Bac Ninh Branch, there was Ms. Thanh Kim Hue, Director of the Banking Academy – Bac Ninh Branch, and 48 trainees.

The training course helped enhance capacity and create opportunities for experience sharing among Japanese companies and supply chains, facilitating discussions about common challenges, risks, as well as solutions to promote and respect human rights in business operations. During the training sessions, participants also had the opportunity to engage in direct consultations with UNDP experts on the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) as well as human rights due diligence.UNGPs) cũng như rà soát quyền con người.

After two days of learning and exchange, participants gained exposure to responsible business practices as well as human rights due diligence processes. Through this experience, trainees were able to perceive, understand, and apply the guidelines in specific business scenarios. The training course also aimed to create mutual learning opportunities for Japanese companies and supply chains to discuss common challenges and risks, as well as solutions to promote and respect human rights in business operations.

This training course contributed to raising awareness about socially responsible business practices, particularly among enterprises. This provides the necessary foundation for promoting Vietnam's National Action Plan on responsible business and working toward the successful achievement of Vietnam's sustainable development goals.
