Research Skills Development Program for Faculty Members
The "Research Skills Development Program for Faculty Members" is designed to enhance the research capabilities and international publication skills of faculty members from universities and institutes in the fields of economics, business administration, and management.
The program combines theoretical knowledge with practical application, covering research design skills, statistical software usage (SPSS, STATA), and sharing experiences on the publication process in prestigious international journals.
I. Context & Urgency
In the current higher education landscape, reforming teaching methodologies and enhancing research quality have become top priorities for universities, institutes, and research centers. The ranking of a university is increasingly evaluated through the research capacity and ability of its faculty to participate in international standard research activities. Universities with numerous internationally published research works and faculty actively participating in international research groups are typically recognized and highly regarded on the global stage.
The research capacity of faculty members is clearly demonstrated through published academic works, particularly those appearing in prestigious international journals. International research publications are not only important factors for doctoral training but also necessary conditions for participating in international research projects and serve as crucial criteria in university ranking and evaluation. Beyond enhancing personal and institutional reputation, developing research skills also contributes significantly to improving teaching quality and enhancing faculty members' professional consulting capabilities.
This training program is designed to support faculty members from universities in the fields of economics, business administration, and management in developing their research skills and capabilities comprehensively.
II. Program Objectives
The "Research Skills Development Program for Faculty Members from Universities and Institutes in Economics, Business Administration, and Management" is specifically designed for faculty teams from universities and institutes, with the objective of supporting participants to:
- Gain deep understanding of current research methodology limitations and grasp the requirements for research innovation in Economics, Management, and Business Administration;
- Clearly distinguish the differences in requirements between applied research (consulting) and academic research in economics and business administration;
- Master fundamental research processes and skills, including identifying research focus and framework, research design along with professional methods and skills;
- Proficiently apply common statistical tools on SPSS software and/or econometric models and tools with STATA software;
- Exchange and learn from colleagues' experiences regarding the implementation of consulting research projects;
- Share experiences on the submission and publication process in peer-reviewed and ranked international journals (SSCI).
Benefits for Different Faculty Groups
- Faculty members who have not completed doctoral programs: The program provides foundational skills to help participants understand how to effectively select topics and conduct research;
- Faculty members who have completed domestic doctoral degrees: The program supplements knowledge and research skills according to international standards to enable research conduct and publication in international journals;
- Faculty members with foreign doctoral degrees: The program creates opportunities to consolidate knowledge, exchange experiences, and build networks to continue development in research and publication fields.
III. Training Methodology
The program applies active teaching methods, harmoniously combining basic theoretical instruction, practical experience sharing, and direct hands-on practice by participants. Participants will experience skills through real examples and situations from completed research projects or topics of interest to participants.
During the learning process, participants will be guided in using popular statistical software such as SPSS and STATA with basic statistical tools. Participants will be divided into small groups to practice designing research on topics of group interest. The faculty team will accompany and advise participants throughout the research design process.
IV. Specialized Topics Content
The program provides core skills in research methodology and practical experience in both applied and academic research. Depending on specific needs, institutions may select appropriate specialized topics or propose customized training content design according to their unit's specific requirements.
Below are the main specialized topics commonly included in the program:
- Topic 1: Overview of university faculty research activities
- Topic 2: Research design
- Topic 3a: Practice with basic statistical tools using SPSS software (suitable for Business Administration and Management fields)
- Topic 3b: Econometric models and tools with STATA software (suitable for Economics field)
- Topic 4: Reading, understanding, and presenting results from statistical analyses
- Topic 5: Research design presentation and professional discussion
V. Faculty Team & Certification
The faculty team consists of experts with systematic training abroad and extensive experience in both academic research (with numerous works published in SSCI-listed international journals) and applied research (having successfully completed many research contracts with domestic and international organizations). The program can also invite foreign experts to participate in teaching according to the needs of the registering unit.
Upon program completion, participants will receive a Certificate signed by the Rector of the National Economics University.
